Reopened since July 2018 after the fire, LOCAL stopped in to check up on Brittany Houser and Soul & Sea Restaurant.

Located on Frankstown Rd (by Coal Hollow Rd)  squeezed in the corner of a shopping center you’ll find this one of a kind restaurant. Set up for take out (although they have some outdoor seating), this local gem serves traditional soul food, such as, ribs, greens, mac & cheese, wings, and a variety of sides. What sets them apart from other similar places are the amazing seafood dishes. The highlight is a fried lobster tail that must be eaten to be understood.  On occasion they will add seasonal specials like blue crabs, a Louisiana boil or this weeks double stuffed salmon. Fresh ingredients, and recipes that have been handed for generations, makes this local establishment stand out. They have an expanded weekend menu, but order early they are known to sell out of menu favorites.

We spoke with Brittany Houser:

LOCALshopper– what was your inspiration for starting the business?                                                                         Brittany Houser-I saw the need in the community for a new age soul food spot that brought you the best of both worlds.

Ls-The vast majority of restaurant business owners are men, do you feel it’s been an advantage or disadvantage to be a female?                                                                                                                                                                                 BH- I feel being a woman, I’m already at a disadvantage because I have to go 10X harder than my male counterparts but I like the challenge.

Ls-The unfortunate fire seem to have come right when you’re really starting to get noticed, how did you handle the setback how are things going now?                                                                                                                                    BH– The fire was a major blow but since the major buzz was coming up to it’s peak people who didn’t try it wanted to try it and our loyal customers couldn’t wait to get more.. Business is definitely going very well. I just want to keep my customers on their toes with our weekly specials.

Ls-Do you have plans for expansion in the future                                                                                                                BH- Yes! I would love to expand to Downtown, or the Northside, also Wexford is in my sights
